Tonya Bailey from Perth, Western Australia
I have read through some of the comments of support made
to AJ and his family and I am glad there are others out there
who feel the same as I do about breast feeding and the good
it can do for your child, thus, my main comment here is on
the breast feeding of children. I have a son who is 11 1\2
months old. He has been breastfeed for that entire time.
From the age of 6 mths we did begin introducing solids.
When my son was 6 mths old I return to work full time, this
did not deter the breast feeding though and I continue to
feed, expressing his lunchtime feed so he could have it at
day care. He has just recently weaned himself off that
feed but still has 3 feeds a day. He is an extremely healthy
baby, having only 1 cold in the last 6 mths of being in
day care and I am sure this is mostly because he is breast
feed.

There is not enough support out there from the "general
public" in respect to breast feeding. I am lucky and have a
very up to date workplace that has made it easy to continue
to feed my son, and there should be more like them out
there. People need to stop pressuring mothers into making
decisions they are not happy with and stop making them
feel uncomfortable doing something that was and is
nature's way of providing sustenance for a child.

Breast feeding is the most natural thing you can do for your
child and it really should be encouraged. Situations such
as with AJ may only cause some less confident mothers
to "give up" breast feeding in favour of other methods
purely to relieve the pressure. If you are a breast feeding
mother and you are reading this keep up the good work,
you can only be helping your child!
