Want to comment on this? HAVE YOUR SAY Janine Rosomoff from Alameda, USA I have to say, as a mother and a nurse, I am APPALLED after listening to the interaction between the social workers, police and the parents involved in this case. Having an officer in my own family, I would never dream of opening the door of my home without someone offerring appropriate identification! And I would be making a phone call or two to prove it. These parents were just supposed to take the word of a bunch of people on their doorsteps?! I think NOT! And not allowing the father to review the documentation prior to their admittance is downright criminal! What parent in their right mind would allow complete strangers to take their child away from them based on "word" only? Are they insane? What prior interaction took place? Anything at all? A complaint filed and that's justification? Even if the grounds were true, what steps were made to assist the parents? The child? It's obvious that no attempt was made to have even the smallest civil conversation with these parents. An assumption was made, and Big Brother knocked their front door down and snatched an infant from his mother's arms. I can only say that I applaud this family for going public. To not only try to right a wrong, but to potentially keep it from happening to other, terrified parents out there. I, in no way, justify the abuse or neglect of any child. But breastfeeding exclusively at this age is relatively common, and does NOT fall into those categories. The other parties involved are hideously ignorant of infant nutrition. I suggest some immediate, remedial child development education for the DOCS workers..Preferably CE courses that are NOT provided by formula companies! LOL! How about rolling up your sleeves ladies and picking up a textbook or two? And doing the simple math to calculate the protein and fat content of breastmilk vs the carbohydrate (and much lower caloric count) of most starter foods? And while we're at it..How about some community policing classes for the police? If I remember correctly, they're sworn to protect and defend the citizens of the community they serve. They are supposedly on the same side! Suffice to say, an injustice has been done here. As an American citizen, there is nothing that I can do. But I ask the good people of Sidney...Are you going to continue to allow this sort of thing to happen? How CAN you?
Sincerely,
Janine Rosomoff,RN
