Want to comment on this? HAVE YOUR SAY Linda Darlene Lowder from Anna, TX USA It is hard for me to know where to begin in my comments as I am having so different emotions all at once.
First, I think I would like to say, as a mother, that I think Suzanne is one of the bravest and and most courageous mothers in the world. I know what you've been going through over the past couple of weeks seems almost too much to bear. But, please keep leaning on God for His srength and direction. I agree 100% with the way you are caring for your baby in the fact that you are exclusively breastfeeding him.
No matter what negative things people say to you, it doesn't change what is true. You know what is true within your heart and power is knowledge. Feel the freedom to celebrate your total nurturing of AJ and your right as a loving mom. Your breastmilk is PERFECT for AJ. In fact, it is designed specificaly for HIS body and his makeup. I have seen so many mothers give in to the pediatrician's pressures and the "advice" of friends and family in putting the baby on solids or switching them to formula to get the infant to "put on weight."
Only thing is, though, the baby would just continue to gain in the same fashion he had been or else end up overweight and/or bothered with food and milk allergies. Most of these mothers deeply regretted conforming to the beliefs and fears of others.
I have 4 children of my own. I was one of those mothers who listened to the criticisms of others about how I was feeding my firstborn daughter. By the time she was 3 weeks old I had begun to supplement with formula and solids. By the time she was 6 weeks old, she was no longer breastfeeding. I feel so bad to know I did not listen to my own inner voice and the truth inside me.
With my second child, he nursed exclusively until he was almost 7 months old. At this point I very slowly introduced solids.
He breastfed until he was 2 yrs. old when he weaned himself. My third child nursed until shortly after his 6th birthday when he one day decided to nurse for the last time. My fourth baby is now 8 months old. He has had nothing but breastmilk since he was born and I don't plan to begin solids for atleast another month. He is a highly intellectual child who is also high-need. He visually and mentally takes in his environment and is very sensitive to the "aura" around him. He is a healthy and active baby who has never been ill. At birth (born at home) he weighed 6# 10 oz. (3 kgs.?) and at 8 months of age he weighs 15# 3 oz. (6.9 kgs.?) He measured 18.75 in. (47.6 cm.) at birth and is now about 29 in. (73.6 cm.) at 8 months. Some may think he is quite on the lean side, but he is only following in genetic footsteps and I know he would not gain any better on formula. My milk is just what he needs and is just what he will have despite "tsk-tsks" from the crowd.
It is very difficult to stand up for what you believe when you have so many in your face who oppose you. Please know what you are in my thoughts and in my prayers and that I KNOW you are doing the RIGHT thing by holding to the truths and convictions you have.
Ignorance and blindness of those harrassing you have made them fools in the eyes and hearts of all of us who know what is best and right for our children. You and your husband are to be praised and you take pride of place in my book!
Also, thank you for taking the courage and energy it demands to place this where we can all see it and learn by it. Thank you for the opportunity you have given us to pray for you and your husband and baby.
I wish there was more I could say to you to lift your spirits. Please hang in there and know you have literally thousands of people who stand behind you!
Most sincerely,
Linda Lowder Anna, Texas mother of 4 breastfeeding mom retired midwife homeschooling family followers of Christ attachment parenting Want to comment on this? HAVE YOUR SAY |
